Keep in mind this takes place in 1776, but we need old artifacts that look
fairly new, not worn. Studying this time period, I put us somewhere
between the primitive Pilgrim years and the not-yet-mass production of the
19th Century. These men were the cream of their respective crops and
many lived with the finer things in life.
Come join the fun! Help make our set the most authentic Assembly Room at
Independence Hall yet!
Call Molly at 946-5431 (H) or Ann Norris at 995-9658 (H). Or stop by the
playhouse with what you have. PLEASE DO THIS NOW.
The show opens Friday,
March 15 and runs thru Saturday, April 6. All weapons and delicate
artifacts are kept under lock and key between shows and I assure you your
property will be well cared-for and returned promptly at show's end.
Let's make "1776!" our most-memorable performance ever!
Thanks to all you worthy souls who auditioned for "1776".

TRAVERSE CITY --- Old Town Playhouse will be holding auditions for the mainstage musical 1776 beginning at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 7 and Tuesday, January 8, 2002. Auditions will be held in Milliken Auditorium at the Dennos Museum Center on the Northwestern Michigan College campus in Traverse City.
1776 is being directed by Jeanette Mason of Traverse City. Musical director is Joe Rice and vocal director is Tom Stokes, both of Traverse City. Winner of the 1969 Tony for Best Musical, 1776 brings the debate and pivotal discussions leading to the Declaration of Independence to life with a predominantly male ensemble. The production will cast two women and 25 men in singing roles (no chorus), utilize an 18-piece orchestra and feature 12 musical numbers.
1776 follows John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania and Richard Henry Lee and Thomas Jefferson of Virginia as they attempt to convince the members of the second Continental Congress to vote for independence from the shackles of the British monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence. Critics have commended the work for being “…funny, insightful and compelling.”
Auditions are open to all interested community members.
Everyone will be required to sing with an accompanist, and may either
bring his or her own sheet music or select from the accompanist’s repertoire.
Performance dates for 1776 are March 15-17, 21-24, 28-30 and April 4-6, 2002. Show times are at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays (March 17 & 24). The box office will begin selling tickets for 1776 to the public beginning Monday, March 4.
