**THE HAPPY JOURNEY by Thornton Wilder is directed by Karen Cross, who recently directed GUYS AND DOLLS and THE BOY FRIEND for the Northport Theater. Written seven years before OUR TOWN, it features elements developed more fully in that later play: a bare stage and an onstage character who represents the stage manager. Relying heavily on visual improvisation, the narrative follows a mother, father, and teenage son and daughter as they travel from Trenton, New Jersey to Camden to visit a married older daughter. Their typical family squabbles and relatively lighthearted trip conceal a tragedy in the older daughter’s recent experience. The stage manager portrays two minor female and one male role and could be cast with someone of either gender.

THIS PROPERTY IS CONDEMNED

 WILLIE - Tina O'Rourke
TOM - Tom Cilluffo.
Assistant Director - Margaret-Anne Slawson

*** THIS PROPERTY IS CONDEMNED by Tennessee Williams, directed by Hedges Macdonald, involves a chance meeting between a girl in her early teens and a slightly older boy on an unused stretch of railroad track in the rural south, circa 1945. The girl is living a fugitive existence, a home alone orphan who is hiding from the authorities as the last survivor of a family that once ran a boarding house for railroad men. Her highly imaginative tales of her life with her deceased party girl sister are both captivating and a little frightening.

*** GLORY IN THE FLOWER by Tennessee Williams, directed by Chris Cooke, whose performances in 1776, CRAZY FOR YOU, PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE, and with his own band, EAST BAY BLUE are well remembered, is set in a Midwest road house circa the 1950's. There is a meeting there between a still attractive woman in her late 30's and the man with whom she had a love child two decades earlier. The man went on to a career in prizefighting and occasional movie appearances, but he hasn’t forgotten their former relationship. Onlookers to this reunion include a bartender, a disillusioned salesman (the town was once very prosperous, but then the mine closed), and a quartet of teens who have come to play the jukebox and dance.
